Board of Directors

Chris Sloane, President, LCMRC

Christopher Sloane has been immersed in the alternative healing field for over 15 years with a private practice in Reiki and geomancy.  He is a nondenominational, interfaith minister with a BA in Transpersonal Psychology from Burlington College.  He is currently studying for his MA in Counseling Psychology at Johnson State College and working towards his licensure in counseling. He has worked for the Domestic Abuse Education Project co-facilitating court mandated groups for men convicted of domestic violence.  Chris has worked most recently in the field of addictions counseling. He has been part of the men's movement for over 15 years, during which time he has come to recognize and embrace the healing potential of men’s groups and men's work. Making this healing potential increasingly available to men from all walks of life has become one of the singular purposes of his life.  He lives out in the woods of Vermont with his wife Lela, where they are raising a blended family with two lovely daughters.

Nicholas P. Marconi, LCMRC Vice President

Nicholas Marconi has been involved in men’s support groups for the past three years and has been absorbed in learning about the nature and practice of dialogue for more than thirty years. He studied and practiced Aikido for three years. He wants to develop new ways to provide non-threatening challenges to the cultural status quo with respect to male domination, violence and relationships. He has read widely in cultural/ philosophical literature for the past 40 years. He is working on an essay on the relationship between form, meaning and communication and since 2001 he has been engaged in organizing and in leading dialogue groups. He currently practices optometry and lives in Shelburne with his wife, son, mother-in-law, niece and six cats.

E. Lela McCaffrey, CPA, Treasurer, LCMRC

Lela is an CPA working in Montpelier with many years of experience working as a business manager for nonprofit and private companies, managing multiple private, state and federal grants. Lela has a passion for fully engaging in relationships, whether they are professional or personal.  Through this passion, she has come to understand the importance of men's work.  She was introduced to the concept through her husband, Chris, and feels that it is vital that men and women find ways to connect and that there are safe spaces in which relationships may be explored.  She lives in Bolton with her blended family, the birds, and other wild creatures who regularly visit the yard.

Mark Montalban, Secretary, LCMRC

Combining the perspectives of a community organizer, artist, and cancer survivor, Mark envisions the men’s movement as an opportunity to expand the definitions of the “everyday man,” to challenge oppression, and to seek out spiritual growth.  Mark’s experience as founder of the Burlington Currency Project, Elder Art Program, Art for All Ages, and original member of the Last Elm Cafe Collective is part of his overall effort to realize a “new paradigm of social and economic justice.” He and his partner Becky try living a life incorporating feminism into their marriage.

Becky Roy, Board Member, LCMRC

Becky currently works as a mental health clinician in Burlington for adults with severe and persistent mental illness, and has a private practice in neurofeedback and psychotherapy.  Becky received her MS in Counseling Psychology in 1994 from the University of Kentucky, and has clinical experience with individuals of all ages struggling with mental illness, emotional disturbances, and physical and sexual trauma.  Becky's feminist interests developed in the late 1980s when she began working with battered women and rape survivors, and in the mid-90s during graduate school with feminist mentors.  In feminist conversations and conferences, she observed minimal space made for feminist men or how patriarchy oppresses men.  She is excited to be working with LCMRC to support men's emotional growth and authentic, egalitarian relations between men and women.  Becky lives in Colchester with her husband Mark.

David Ellenbogen, Board Member, LCMRC

David has two sons, has been active in the men's community for six years,  is an educator and a textbook author.  Having grown up near New York City and having taught in different high school and college settings for over 25 years, he is well acquainted with the ills that society has wrought upon men in the years since he was a young man in the 1970's.  A co-founder of the Colchester Recycling Program, the current chair of the Colchester Progressive Party, a mentor in the Community Friends program, and a former coach in basketball, baseball, and soccer, David takes special joy in performing music with his older son and skiing with his younger son.

Barry Nelson, LCMRC Board member

Barry Nelson is a veteran of the “men’s movement”. He has participated in Vermont’s “Men Alive” gatherings for almost twenty years starting in 1987.  He has been actively involved in deepening his spiritual life in his roles as father carpenter and marriage partner. He holds a bachelors degree in chemical engineering, is self-employed remodeling contractor and a member of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Burlington, Vermont.
